Ivypaw sneaked back to camp, utterly spent. She wasn't too sure where Rookpaw was, but certainly hoped he was just behind her. The apprentice had returned from a night of ... well, let's just say intrigue and leave it at that, okay?

The she-kitty padded into the apprentice den, wondering if she could spot her friend Lithepaw, who'd went away in a huff at 'her' glade.

“I’m here.” Lithepaw poked her head inside of the den, green eyes shining with an unfathomable emotion. “Kind of surprised that you’d look for me, though. I went hunting in the lake and put some of my kill in the pile. We had intended to hunt, after all.”
Lithepaw entered the apprentice’s den before making herself cosy on her customary sleeping nest. She gave Rookpaw and Ivypaw a hard look. “So am I missing anything?” She thought about the mess about the glade. Then suddenly, now apparently the three of them were supposed to be ‘friends’. Lithepaw gave a discreet shudder—she usually enjoyed making friends, yes, but it was just unusual, how the three came to be acquaintances.
Lithepaw uncomfortably shifted her gaze. It really was strange, thinking of their weird…. ‘relationship’ like that. Oh well, you saw something weird every day. Or so she thought. Lithepaw sighed and leaned against the wall, her ears no longer awaiting a reply. Now, she just wanted to sleep.

“Oh, great.” Lithepaw’s eyelids flickered as she gave an attempt to stay awake. Lithepaw suddenly forced her green eyes open, and replied, “I’m fine.” She gave Rookpaw a deathly glare—so she was expected to forgive all of the stupid things he had said to her. Deaf, ignorant… Lithepaw then turned her gaze to her nest again and repeated, “Fine.”

“Fine.” Lithepaw glared down at her paws. Fine, so for now she would forgive the black-furred tomcat. It wouldn’t last long, she wagered. He seemed the irritable type. Lithepaw looked back up at the two, struggling not to blink in the fear that she would fall asleep in the middle of the conversation. “Shouldn’t you guys go to sleep already? It’s almost the crack of dawn and I should think that all of you are going to the Gathering tomorrow.” Lithepaw yawned, before suddenly concentrating on Ivypaw’s face. “Wait, you’re going to the medicine cats’ ceremony, right?”

Oh, of course. Lithepaw had heard of this Gathering; apparently the medicine cats all gathered up to go to the Moonstone and connected to StarClan and proclaimed themselves medicine cats. A small grin split Lithepaw’s face and she stood, all traces of weariness flowing out of her. Her green eyes shone with excitement. Oh, the thought of the Gathering! It would be terrific! It was all she could do to stop herself from skipping then and there. Lithepaw coughed before readying her ears for Ivypaw and Rookpaw’s reply. She had been so absorbed. That was the thing about Lithepaw; once her attention caught on something it was hard to retract it.

"Oh, right! Yes, I'm definitely going." Ivypaw beamed, energy quite literally flowing out of her. "Actually, now you've reminded me of the gathering I'm not so tired after all." She gave Lithepaw a grateful nod and padded over to her chosen moss bed before resting on it. The apprentice reassured the two other cats, "Don't worry, I'm not going to sleep." All of a sudden, the she-cat was hit by a desire to smell the herbs, their exotic tang for some, the familiar, gentle scents for others.

Ivypaw noticed Lithepaw's cough and asked gently, with a underlay of worry, "You okay?" The dark-striped kitty then giggled as quietly as she could at Rookpaw's remark, replying with "Oh, I don't think it's that hard."

“I’m alright!” Lithepaw beamed, before clearing her expression. “Actually he’s right. I am rather hard to entertain.” Lithepaw purred with mirth, feeling somewhat delirious. Lithepaw bounced on the tips of her paws. Lithepaw suddenly felt a strange urge to run rapidly about the room without stopping. She then focused her gaze on Ivypaw. “Are you nervous?” she meowed in question, feeling so excited she could barely breathe. And what with her chest condition that wasn’t good. To clear her breathing Lithepaw took several deep breaths, turning away momentarily. Her lung problem was to be kept a secret; she didn’t like to expose her weaknesses.

“By the way, when are we going to sleep?” she mewed, ear twitching with concern as she turned around to face them again. “I don’t feel too eager to stay up all night.” She gave an unnecessary shudder; that would make her exhausted beyond belief! It would be terrible.

"Great!" Ivypaw replied, her voice full of merriment. "I-nervous? That's not really like me at all!" She meowed bravely before she almost cried and mewed, "Yeah, I actually am, a bit!" Of course, the apprentice wasn't sad, oh no, she was almost literally crying tears of joy!

"Sleep? Ah, I don't know. We'll just see when the dark warmth and silence of shut-eye calls!" The she-cat answered, amused. Ivypaw wasn't sure if she could stay up all night, but if possible, she'd like to see how it'd be like. When she heard what Rookpaw meowed out, the med. cat in training looked at him in surprise, voicing her thoughts, "Oh, really? It can be positively electrifying sometimes!"

Lithepaw smiled. “Well, you do what you want. I know one thing; though—I could never last the night awake and then stay chirpy for the day afterward.” She purred with amusement before beginning to groom herself, first licking her paw in preparation to draw it over her ear. She kept her emerald eyes on Rookpaw however. “By the way, Rookpaw, why’d you stay awake?” she questioned curiously between licks. Dang. She just felt drawn to talk to him all of a sudden. Maybe it was because, you know, they were supposed to be friends now. Lithepaw stopped, and frowned as a peculiar sensation overcame her. Friends. It seemed weird, she hadn’t suspected that she could ever be friends with someone with ever-changing moods like Rookpaw. She often found those types of cats annoying and not one worth talking too. But that was just her.

Lithepaw shook her head. She was starting to shake her head too much, she thought with a touch of amusement.

Ivypaw laughed quietly at Lithepaw shaking her head, she'd been doing that at various times this ... night? The apprentice nodded at Lithepaw's 'confession' and replied, "Well I haven't really tried that, so... I'd never know unless I tried, huh?" She winked at Rookpaw, knowing the question should've been more like 'how'd you stay awake?'. Her eyes roved around the den, then she sighed lightly.

"Sorry, but I just .. want to .. go outside, I guess." Ivypaw meowed softly before padding briskly out of her den, feeling energized, as if a bolt of pure energy had just struck her, at that very moment.

Lithepaw gazed after Ivypaw before snuggling into a ball and shutting her eyes. It was more than likely that Rookpaw would want to go outside with Ivypaw then stay there with a sleeping she-cat. A small smile twisted the edge of Lithepaw’s mouth. Of course. She was boring, easily attention-averted … who’d want to be best friends with her? The amusement soon shifted into bitterness and her shining eyes dulled. She had hated cats with frequent mood-shifts, however she couldn’t help feeling like it. Nothing like depression when you talked to yourself. Lithepaw’s eyes slitted with disapproval at herself. It was bad to think to herself; she always put herself down without anyone to distract her. So she merely shut her eyes tightly and tried to will herself to sleep.

Five minutes later, it wasn’t working. She was still wide awake with nothing to aid her sleeping. It was this night that Lithepaw could have lasted during a warriors’ vigil. Again, Lithepaw’s spirits lift and she allowed herself to smile again.

“Oh, I’ve no doubt that you will be … ah, ‘awakened’ by fresh air,” Lithepaw agreed dryly. “Oh well... I’m going out anyway… my mind seems to disagree with my tiredness.” Lithepaw padded slowly from the den, ears flattened against her head, green eyes narrowed with an unfathomable emotion. She lay down just outside of the apprentices’ den before lowering her gaze to her paws, scrabbling in the dirt. There was nothing to do outside and she was in no way willing for another, say, ‘adventure’ with the others. The first sign of light cracked the sky and the wind whistled gently. Lithepaw stood after a few moments, wandering over to the back of the apprentices den.

Ivypaw ignored Rookpaw and Lithepaw, but couldn't help pricking her ears up slightly. The small curve of her mouth was almost unnoticeable, but still definitely, undeniably there. She gazed up at the moon, breath misting the cool air as the sun rose slowly above the horizon, the apprentice admiring the way it painted the sky a gorgeous pink, light orange and pale blue.

For some unknown reason, Ivypaw wondered if it was going to be cloudy today. Bursting out laughing, she faced Rookpaw and meowed, "Ah, I'm definitely not going to sleep." Her face lit up with a brilliant radiance before she turned on her paw and faced the rising sun once more.

Lithepaw’s eyes flashed over to Rookpaw and a slight smile twisted her lips. “Exploring,” she replied, in a soft, purring mew. Her pale tail swayed, seeming to emit its own light in the dark, yet slowly lightening, area. Lithepaw’s keen forest-green eyes swept the area before, satisfied, she backed up and stood next to Rookpaw and Ivypaw, eyes bright. “Actually, I don’t think I’ll go to sleep yet. It seems… almost too peaceful.” And there she stood, eyes shining, looking out at the sun.

Finally, she went backwards and sat at the apprentices’ den entrance. Suddenly, her laugh rang out like a clear, tinkling bell. “The gathering is today now.” Lithepaw turned her gaze up to the sun trailing up the sky at a snail’s pace and felt a strange sensation of peace in her mind. She closed her eyes and leaned against the den, a tiny smile carving itself on her mouth.
