Ironpaw stretched out on his stomache, awaiting the arrival of his mentor. He was eager -very eager- to see what he would be learning today. Hunting? Fighting? Maybe his mentor would even take him out to view the borders.

All the thoughts made the dark furred apprentice bristle with excitement, his bulky tail sweeping back and forth with quick bursts of enthusiasm. Oh, I hope she get's here soon! he thought to himself. I want to start!

Blossomlake stretched out, enjoying the luxurious sunny day. She padded softly into the clearing, her long tail swishing back and forth. The pretty warrior smiled - as did her sky-blue eyes - as she spotted her apprentice, Ironpaw. "Ah, good morning, Ironpaw! It's a lovely day, isn't it?" Her tone was teasing, as Blossomlake could clearly spot his excitement.

Hurriedly Ironpaw sat up and grinned in return. "Good morning, and yes, it's a fantastic day!" He paused, tried to contain himself, then blurted out, "What are we doing today?"

His tail lashing back and forth with enthusiastic joy, Ironpaw nodded his head slowly, trying to bring some seriousness into his act. He didn't want Blossomlake to think he was still a kit or something. That'd be terrible!

"Oh, yes, sounds great!" He paused, containing his excitement, and continued politely, "What will we do first?"

Twistedpaw sighed as he padded through the forest, taking very half-hearted steps. Collecting herbs! It was tedious. He loved being a medicine cat, but collecting herbs...

He sighed and made his way through a clump of ferns.

And found himself right in front of Blossomlake. He leaped back, startled, then calmed and apologized. "Er, sorry."

"Oh," Ironpaw said, totally blase and everything. "That'll be good." Inside, his heart was thumping loudly, and he could only chant, Don't let me screw up, don't let me screw up...

He followed his mentor, and such was his anxiety that he nearly attacked Twistedpaw when the medicine cat apprentice appeared. It was only with difficulty that he kept his paws firmly on the ground, claws sinking into the ground, not fur. Calm down, calm down, he urged himself. You're gonna mess up for sure this way.

Pushing away any impatience, Ironpaw cheerfully mewed, "Hey, Twistedpaw! How's it going?" No one could ever accuse him of unfriendliness.

"Oh, well, that's, ah, too bad," Ironpaw stuttered, quite taken aback with the apprentice's unhappy reply. Before he could sit down and really say anything, Blossomlake was beckoning with her tail, and obediently Ironpaw followed.

He called over his shoulder, "I'll help next time, 'kay? Just tell me when, and where, and I'll be there."

Glancing hurriedly ahead at his mentor, he added, "I mean, if I'm not busy with apprentice stuff."
